Description
Caracol is one of the most impressive Maya sites in all of Belize and one of the most rewarding days you can spend in the Cayo District. Hidden deep within the Chiquibul Forest Reserve, this ancient city was once home to over 100,000 people and at its peak was powerful enough to defeat Tikal. Your guide picks you up at 8:00 AM from Casa Maruka and takes care of everything from there.
As you make your way through the jungle, your guide will fill you in on the history of the site before you arrive. Once there, you’ll explore towering pyramids, sprawling plazas, and intricate stone carvings, with plenty of time to climb, photograph, and take it all in. The highlight is Caana — Sky Palace — the tallest structure in Belize, with views over an endless canopy of jungle stretching to the horizon.
On the way back, you’ll make an additional stop at one of two beautiful natural spots. The choice is yours:
Big Rock Falls — a stunning jungle waterfall with a natural pool, perfect for a refreshing swim after a day in the heat.
Rio On Pools & Rio Frio Cave — a series of smooth granite pools connected by small waterfalls, plus a walk through one of the most scenic river caves in Belize.
Just let your guide know which you’d prefer, or feel free to skip the stop altogether if you’d rather head back and rest.
You’ll be back at Casa Maruka between 4:30 and 5:00 PM.
